10 days Bustrip
Not the large hotels experience, nor the cathedrals storming almost to the sky, not the palm trees Boulevards, nor monumental cathedral domes will do it...
You will receive experiences and impressions, that mean the acquaintance of totally newer, other culture, art and landscape forms.
The church castles in Transylvania are more like a fort than a sacral building. The chain of the Moldavian churches are for their cultural value unique in the world. The Danube Delta is a paradise in the truest sense of the word. And the landscapes of Transylvania, of the Carpathian Mountains, of Bucovina and Walachia are showing a colourful blossom dress to us
!
1st Day Vienna – Satu mare
After we cross Hungary, we go through the eastern Hungarian lowland and come to the Romanian border Bors. From here we drive then to Satu Mare, where we will arrive at a very old but good hotel and overnight.
2nd Day Satu Mare - Suceava
In the morning we’ll visit the cheerful cemetery of Sapanta, where, on each gravestone, is written a funny poem about the deceased. After that we’ll see the wooden churches of Bogdan Voda, Ieud and Rozavlea that, here in the Maramures, are very similar with the rod churches from Norway. In the afternoon we’ll cross the Prislop pass and we’ll arrive in Suceava. The city SUCEAVA, where we will stay for two nights in the hotel named like the city, is the capital of the Romanian Moldavia. Fortunately, the pretty gardens remain wonderful due to the roses, that bloom three times per year! There is also a St. George Nou Church to see and is in a walk distance the monastery Zamca.
Day 3. Monastery roundtrip
Among the strongest impressions of Romania are those from the world-famous Moldavian churches and also from the Monasteries of BUCOVINA. The forests and hills form the scene for the largest treasures, that are producing the story of art of Romania. When the sun is shining the grand, coloured fassades illuminate from far away expecting the visitors. From the previous 12 churches, just five are covered with frescos. We will visit and admire these treasures of our excursion in the Bucovina: MOLDOVITA, HUMOR, ARBORE, VORONET and also SUCEVITA. Although each of these monasteries is unique in its way, they where built in the same century. Starting with the year 1530 they enlightened the eyes of visitors, but their frescos lost until today nothing of its illuminating beauty and show not only sacral, but also political subjects from the past centuries. They are to be understood also as a religious development work, because the population would not have understood the liturgy otherwise. Perhaps the churches were too small and the pictures have had in interior no place and were painted at the outside? One does not know it exactly. At the end of this interesting visit and of this day, full of new experience, we are tired, but we came with many new impressions back to the hotel. In the evening, a folklore programme with music, dances, Romanian kitchen and drinks awaits for us.
4th Day. Suceava – Tulcea
In the morning, we have the possibility to see one of the two monasteries (Varatec or Agapia). They are the largest in Europe, with more than 1000 nuns and novices (each of them). The trip goes then further. Along the SIRET RIVER, we drive over BACAU, TECUCI and GALATI to TULCEA, the gate of the Danube Delta, where we go down for two nights to the hotel Delta again. Until dinner we’ll have certainly some free time.
5th Day Danube Delta
Today the bus and driver will take a break. This is just because a ship siren calls us on board of a little steamer. An all-day, jolly trip through the DANUBE DELTA stands for us in the programme. Many of us have already stood at the source of this often sanged river. Some have seen it already in Vienna or anywhere else. However, we discover today finally, where our “wonderful blue Danube” flows into the Black Sea! The surface of over 5000 sqKM, shared in water, sump or tree land, having between reed islands, which are changing permanently its image. Thousand of birds are living in the Delta, many bird trains are coming down in the reed.
6th Day Tulcea – Sinaia
In the morning we drive to the capital of Romania. With its 2.2 million inhabitants it is one of the largest cities of the East. We drive on the wide boulevards, between the imposing buildings. The palace of Ceausescu is alone a trip valued. If one knows the country, the view of this building will let him breathless. The over 3000 rooms are equipped only with the most valuable materials. We will visit also other sights, like the Patriarchal Church for example, or the village museum. In the afternoon we go towards north, into the south Carpathian Mountains, to reach Sinaia.
7th Day Sinaia – Sibiu
In the morning we’ll see the Castle Peles, that was constructed by Carol I, who was the first king of the Hohenzollern in Romania. In a distance of a few kilometres, we can also see the castle Bran, that was named also castle Dracula. A wonderful experience is also the city of Brasov, where we can visit the Black Church (the largest gothical sacral building of Eastern Europe). The interiour of the church is draped with valuable oriental carpets. The gothic walls, with the oriental influences, embrace the historical characteristics of this region. We visit then the old town of Brasov, one of the prettiest old city centres of Romania. In the afternoon we arrive in Sibiu.
8th Day Saxon Churches
Today we intend to visit the most important Saxon Churches of Transylvania and of the Tarnava Valley. We begin with the church castle from Slimnic, after that those from Axente Sever and those from Medias. At noon time, we can see the largest church castle of Transylvania and for sure, that from Biertan. Sighisoara alone is the entire trip worth, the old town is an impressive sightseeing. Here we can see the clock tower, the mountain church and the birthplace of Dracula. In the afternoon we go to Agnita and Nokrich and then we come back to Sibiu. In the evening, we are expected by the farmers of Sibiel, where we will first visit the unique glass icon museum and after that, we will have dinner at the farmer’s home.
9th Day Sibiu – Arad
In the morning, we’ll drive to Alba Iulia. On the way, we see the villages, that have been established by people who came from Austria because of their protestant believes during Maria Theresia's times. In Alba lulia, we visit the Catholic Cathedral, that was one of the most important churches for the Hungarian kings. Here are burried some of them. The fort of Alba lulia was constructed in the times of Eugen of Savoy. In the afternoon we drive through the Mures Valley until Arad. On the way we‘ll see also Deva. The youth style of the architecture Arad’s is well known throughout Romania.
