1.2 EXPEDITION (Voyage of discovery) � ROMANIA


Services:
7 overnight stays, half board: a person free (SR, FB), English speaking guide from/to the border, (for entrances about 20 EUR should be planned per person).

 

8 day bus trip
1st Day. Budapest - Deva
At noon one will be driving over the border into Romania. Here one will be expected by the local guide. The trip will continue towards Deva. On the way there one will shortly visit the city of Arad which has been known since the days of Maria Theresa for its buildings that were constructed in the youth style. Along the river Mures, one will drive into the west Carpathian Mountains. Deva is renowned in Romania because of its castle as well as of the Dacian and Roman reinforcements in its proximity. D/O/B

2nd Day. Deva - Sibiu
In the morning one will drive to Alba Iulia to visit the Catholic cathedral that was built here in the 11th century. At the same time one can also see the ring walls of the fort that was constructed in the days of Eugen of Savoy. At the Victory gate of the castle, one will recognize, as Roman general, the emperor Karl VI, the father of Maria Theresa. In the evening (optional) one will visit the glass icons museum from Sibiel where one will eventually dine at the mountain farmers. Wine and hard liquor from their own production will also be at hand. Price per person 10 EUR. D/O/B

Day 3. Tour of the church castles in the TARNAVA valley
In the morning, one will visit the old town of Sibiu. Here one can see the Bridge of Lies, the Bruckental museum as well as the large and small ring. After that one will drive north to visit the German church castles from Slimnic, Axente- Sever, Medias, Biertan and Sighisoara. In the first evening hours, one will be back at the hotel D/O/B

4th Day Sibiu - Predeal
In the morning one will drive east, on the northern side of the south Carpathian Mountains. During the morning, one will also visit the city of Brasov, the largest in Transilvania. In the old town, one can see the Black church with its precious turkish carpet collection. In the afternoon we will visit the Bran castle which was also called Dracula castle. D/O/B

5th Day. Predeal - Bucharest - Predeal
The entire day is planned for the capital of Romania. After a two hour trip one will reach Bucharest to visit the Patriarch church, the Village museum and the Palace of the Parliament (the second largest building in the world after the Pentagon). In the evening one will be back in Predeal. D/O/B

6th Day Predeal
In the morning, one can visit the Peles palace, which was the summer residence of the royal family. Constructed in the Bavarian style, the Peles palace reminded the Hohenzoller of their homeland. Close by, there is a beautiful monastery which was constructed by the monks from the Sinai -peninsula in the 17th century. From the Sinai Peninsula, that gave the name of this monastery, also comes the name of the city. In the afternoon (optional) one can drive to the Moeciu valley where one will be expected by the farmers which will take the group by horse vehicles on narrow mountain routes. At the spring of the Moeciu river, a warm meal with drinks in large quantities will be waiting. Price per person 10 EUR. In the evening one will be back at the hotel. D/O/B

7th Day Predeal - Targu Mures
In the morning one will visit two church castles north of Brasov, that of Harman and Prejmer. After that one will drive over Rupea to Sighisoara where one will visit the medieval fort. This city is often compared to Salzburg Austria), here in Romania. The sights of the city are the Clock tower, the house in which the sovereign Dracula was born as well as the Mountain church. In the afternoon one will reach Tirgu-Mures where one can see the largest orthodox cathedral in Romania. D/O/B

8th Day Tirgu Mures - Budapest
The trip goes towards the homeland today because it is the last day of the stay here in Romania. On the way one will visit the city of Cluj-Napoca with its St. Michael cathedral as well as the statue of the Hungarian king Mathias Corvin. Over the west Carpathian Mountains further until Oradea where one can see the beautiful buildings in the youth style. Immediately after, at the crossing of the Bors border, one can say goodbye to the Romanian guide that has accompanied the group the whole time. Trip further towards the homeland.
