2.21 A TASTE OF TRANSYLVANIA

Day 1. Frankfurt – Bucharest – Predeal
Arrival at the airport Bucharest – Otopeni, meeting with the Romanian guide and drive into the mountains, to Predeal. D/O/B H. Orizont 3* (festive dinner with folklore music)

Day 2. Predeal - Sighisoara
In the morning drive to Bran. Visit of the Fortress Bran, known also as the Dracula Castle. Here one has the possibility of making a comparison between the historical figure of Prince Vlad Tepes and the fictional Count Dracula. The place where the castle is situated, on a cliff with a small river in the neighborhood, corresponds to the description made by Bram Stoker in his popular novel. Possibility of buying Dracula – Souvenirs. Afterwards drive to Brasov. Visit of the Black Church (the largest gothic sacred building in Eastern Europe), the City Hall Square and the orthodox church from the historical city centre. In the afternoon visit of the fortified churches Prejmer and Harman, situated in the eastern part of Transylvania. In the late afternoon arrival in Sighisoara. In the evening festive dinner at the Rest. “Dracula”. The restaurant is located in the historical centre of Sighisoara, in the house where Prince Vlad Tepes was born. This is the reason why this building is known as the birth place of Count Dracula. D/O/B H. Kokeltal 3*

Day 3. Sighisoara – Piatra Fantanele
In the morning city walk in Sighisoara with visit of the Clock Tower and the Church on the Hill. Afterwards drive to Targu Mures. Short stop at the evangelic cathedral. Then drive over Reghin to Bistrita. Here one will make another stop to visit the evangelic church from the old city centre. From Bistrita till 1200 m altitude, where the Fortress-Hotel Dracula is located, one will drive over the Bargau Pass. D/O/B H. Dracula 3* (festive Dracula dinner)
Day 4. Piatra Fantanele - Sibiu
After breakfast drive back over Reghin and Targu Mures, to Medias. Short stop to visit the evangelic church from the medieval city centre. Afterwards drive to Sibiu. Walk through the old city centre with visit of the large and the small ring, the Liar’s Bridge and the evangelical cathedral. This church is related as well to Count Dracula, as the son of Prince Vlad Tepes, Mihnea the Mean, is buried here. Festive dinner at the peasants in Sibiel. O/B H. Continental 3*

Day 5. Sibiu – Bucharest – Frankfurt
Drive over the Olt Valley heading Bucharest. On the way stop at the Cozia Monastery, one of the oldest in Romania, built by the Wallachian prince Mircea the Old, grandfather of Vlad Tepes. At noon arrival in Bucharest. Sightseeing tour in Bucharest with visit of the Palace of the Parliament (second largest building in the world after the Pentagon). Visit of the Patriarchal Church (Seat of the orthodox Head of the Romanian Church) and of the Village Museum. Afterwards transfer to the airport, farewell from the Romanian guide and flight home.
