2.28 ROMANIA ROUNDTRIP

 
 

 

Day 1: Frankfurt – Budapest – Targu Mures. Transfer to Bazna: Bazna Pension 3*
Arrival at the airport in Targu Mures, receipt with the Romanian guide and depart towards Bazna (Baasesen)

Day 2: Bazna – Sibiu – Bazna: Bazna Pension 3*
Early in the morning, you will visit the fortified church in Bazna. Bazna is one of the oldest settlements in the area; the first documentary references date from 1302. Afterwards, drive to Sibiu, Europe’s Cultural Capital in 2007. In the medieval city centre, you will visit the Small and Large Squares, the “Lies’ bridge” and the Evangelic Cathedral.

Day 3: Bazna – Biertan – Sighisoara – Bazna: Bazna Pension 3*
After breakfast, you will visit Medias, one of Saxons’ seven cities – Transylvania is also surnamed “The country of the seven cities” because of these medieval cities. In the well preserved city centre, you can admire the Margaret Church with its spectacular paintings and its impressive altar, one of the biggest in Romania. Afterwards, the trip continues with Biertan, one of the most beautiful fortified churches in Romania. Being forced to defend against the Turks attacks, the citizens of Biertan fortified the church as they hadn’t had enough resources in order to enclose the entire city with a defense wall. Next to the grandiose defense wall, you can admire the church’s spectacular high altar. Later on, you will travel to the medieval fortress of Sighisoara, which is often compared with Salzburg. The citadel which is nowadays inhabited and the aged alleys, will take you back in the medieval époque. The town’s sights are: the Clock tower, the birth house of prince Dracula and the Church on the Hill.

Day 4: Bazna – Bistrita – Campulung Moldovenesc: H. Zimbrul 3*

Travel to Targu Mures, where during the city tour, you will be able to admire the biggest orthodox cathedral in Romania and the beautiful Cultural Palace. Afterwards drive towards Bistrita and, after a short visit of the evangelic cathedral in Bistrita, the road will lead us through Tihuta Pass in the wonderful Bukovina.

Day 5: Monasteries round trip

The tour begins with Moldovita Monastery, which is world wide known because of its exterior walls paintings. Here you will have the opportunity to meet Sister Tatiana, which will gladly introduce you in the World of Christian Orthodoxy. After that, driving through the Obcina mountains, you will reach Sucevita Monastery, where another painting style can be recognized. Nearby, there also is the ceramic centre of Marginea, where you can see the process of fabrication of the black ceramic. In the afternoon you will visit Voronet Monastery which is also known as Romania’s “Capella Sixtina”.

Day 6: Campulung Moldovenesc – Sinaia; H. Sinaia 3*
You will drive along the Bicaz storage lake, through the breathtaking Bicaz gorge, reaching the Red Lake. You will drive deeper in the Carpathians, through the eastern side of Transylvania. You will visit the churches Prejmer and Harman, churches that, for hundreds of years, have protected Brasov from the invasions of thieves. In the evening you will reach Sinaia, the pearl of the Carpathians.

Day 7: Sinaia – Bran – Brasov – Predeal – Sinaia; H. Sinaia 3*
In the morning, you will visit the Bran Castle, which is also known as “Dracula Castle” because of the legend of the bloody prince. Captivating stories are expecting you in all corners of the castle and, for the completely courageous ones, there are also hidden paths to discover. You will travel further to Brasov. City tour with visit of the old city hall, the hidden Orthodox Church and the Black Church, the biggest gothic sacral construction from eastern Europe. In the afternoon, visit of the Sinaia Monastery, which was built by monks from the peninsula Sinai and which, later, gave the name of the city.

Day 8: Sinaia – Bucharest – Budapest – Frankfurt
Drive towards the capital, for the tour of the city. Here, we will visit the Patriarchy, the Village Museum, with its houses from all corners of Romania and the Parliament Palace, the second biggest building in the world, after the Pentagon. Transfer to the airport, farewell from the Romanian guide and flight home.
