2.26 TRANSYLVANIA AND THE BLACK SEA

Day 1. Homeland – Constanta
Arrival at Kogalniceanu airport in Constanta, receipt of the Romanian guide and transfer to the hotel in Venus. D/O/B H. Dana 3? /H. Riviera 3* Mamaia.

day 2: Constanta – Predeal

After breakfast we will travel to Bucharest through Valahia. During a short city tour you will get a first impression of the capital city. Today’s destination is holiday city of Predeal, at the altitude of 1000 meters 350 km D/O/B H. Orizont 3*.

Day 3. Predeal : Dracula Castle in Bran
In the morning you will travel to Sinaia, where the beautiful breathtaking Peles Castle and the former summer residence of the royal Romanian family are located. A short walk will take you to the Castle Sinaia, which gave the name to the present sport resort in the Bucegi mountains. In the evening you will visit the “Dracula Castle”, Bran Castle. A horse carriage will take you to Moeciu village, where you will end your day with a traditional dinner. 100 km O/B H. Orizont 3*.

Day 4. Predeal – Brasov - Sighisoara
In Brasov you will visit the biggest gothic sacral construction in Eastern Europe, the Black Church, Biserica Neagra. You will take a walk in the old city with its baroque city hall and its many coloured roofs. After that, we will travel to Sighisoara. The most beautiful Transylvanian city situated on a hill has numerous timbered houses, hence the name of the medieval Fortress of Romania. From the late gothic Berg Church you have a great view of the city. 190 km. D/O/B H. Kokeltal 3*.

Day 5. Sighisoara – Bazna
From Sighisoara departure to Biertan. A beautiful fortified church was established here as the bishop seat of the regional church, in the middle of which a late gothic church is located. In the old city centre of Medias one can find the Margaret Church, the church with the biggest altar dating from the fifteenth century. In the afternoon arrival to Bazna. 60 km. D/O/B H. Bazna 3*

Day 6. Bazna: Transylvanian lifestyle
After breakfast, a walk throughout Bazna. Bazna, founded by German settlers, became very wealthy through the cultivation of wine and breeding of cattle. Close by, within the mountain there is located a stone Church. You will travel to Boian by carriage. The overwhelming Church with its hidden battlements offer a fairytale view. In the afternoon you will have a glimpse of the Transylvanian lifestyle by having a regional lunch within a peasant family. D/O/B H. Bazna 3*

Day 7. Bazna: Pots and wine
After breakfast travel to Nemsa. Pots and hemp from Nemsa were famous all over Transylvania. Even today you can admire the hand painted, light blue flower ornaments on pots and plates in many households. Later on you will go to Mosna, where beside the saxonian church, you will also see a Romanian church. Lunch at the former parsonage building. The day ends with a wine tasting in a wine cellar in Seuca. 80 km. D/O/B H. Bazna 3*

Day 8. Bazna – Cluj Napoca
Trip to Cluj – Napoca, in the heart of Transylvania and the most important city of the Hungarian minorities in Romania. The city tour begins with a visit at the gothic Michael Church with a valuable interior decoration. In front of it rises the image of the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinius, that was born in Cluj in 1443. Not far away is located the classical Banffy Palace, once the city palace of Hungarian conqueror Adliger, today a museum exhibiting an interesting collection of arms and icons. After leaving the University Babes-Bolyai behind, you wil see the Reformist Church, one of the greatest gothic churches in Transylvania. 240 km. D/O/B H. Bazna 3*

Day 9. Bazna – Sibiu
Today arrival at Sibiu. It is a pleasure to walk through the medieval Centre of the city. One can admire the decorated houses and the outlay of today’s businesses. Visit to the evangelical city church, today the seat of the Romanian bishop. 70 km. In the evening visit to a Glasikon museum in Sibiel, after that a nice hot meal at a peasant’s house. O/F H. Day 10. Sibiu – Pitesti
The day starts with a visit to Astra Museum, the biggest open-air village museum in Romania. The museum presents you the fascinating historical life of the Romanian villages: with straw covered peasant houses, house gates full of art and indigenous oil mills. The fortified Church of Cisnadioara dominates the area from above on a steep mountain along side the gardens. After crossing the Southern Carpatian Mountains you find yourself again in Valahia. When arriving at Pitesti city , you will visit the Cozia Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in the region. 175 km. D/O/B H. Muntenia 3*

Day 11. Pitesti – Bucharest – Constanta
A detailed city tour of Bucharest that includes the Romanian Atheneum, the neoclassical Royal Palace and the Palace of the Parliament. On your way back to your hotel in Venus, on the Black Sea, you will make a short stop at the biggest wine domain Murfatlar. Wine tasting of different wines. 280 km. D/O/B H. Dana 3*

Day 12. Constanta: Vestiges
City tour in the afternoon. You will discover ancient remains of the old city Tomis, the statue of roman poet Ovidiu. You will be given pieces of information about the history of the region in the Archaeological Museum. From the Mosque Minarett you will have a great view of the city and harbour. The orthodox Cathedral St. Peter and Paul has its front fide covered in yellow-white layers. D/O/B H. Dana 3*

Day 13. Constanta: Trip to Danube Delta (not compulsory 45 Eur)
Today you can lie in the sun all day or go on a trip to Danube Delta. Travel by bus to Tulcea. A boat will take you on the river through Danube-Branch Sulina. On the shore of the river you have the chance to see the local houses. The lake Fortuna is one of the numerous Delta lakes. Here you will find islands of vegetation, where pelicans and other birds build their nests. Lunch on the boat. 125 km. D/O/B H. Dana 3*

Day 14. Constanta: Comeback
This day is spent for recovery at the Black Sea. D/O/B H. Dana 3*

Day 15. Constanta – Homeland
Your airplane will take you back to your homeland…
