Day 1. Frankfurt – Bucharest – Sibiu
Arrival at the airport Bucharest – Otopeni, meeting with the Romanian guide and drive to Transylvania. D/O/B Motel “Fantanita Haiducului” 3* (near Sibiu)
Day 2. Sibiu – Moardas – Mosna
In the morning ride with the bicycle over Daia, Rosia to Vurpar. In all these three villages one can still admire the old churches of the Saxons. From Sibiu to Vurpar there are 26 km. Afterwards ride further over Ghijasa de Jos, Ghijasa de Sus, Metis, Ravasel to Moardas. The main attraction of the second part of today’s route is the fortified church Moardas, whose church was built in 1400. Between Vurpar and Moardas there are about 23 km. The last part of today leads over Alma Vii to Mosna, today’s end point. From Moardas to Mosna there are around 6 km. D/O/B evangelic Parish Mosna
Day 3. . Mosna – Biertan – Sighisoara
After breakfast visit of the fortified church of Mosna. This is a very good preserved church in the heart of the village. The church, build at the end of the 15th century by Andreas Lapicida, a skillful constructor and sculptor of Sibiu, is extremely interesting due to its plasticity. In the 16th century the church was fortified, the defense wall was built, having three towers and one bastion. After the visit, drive further to Nemsa. Visit of the fortified church. The gothic hall church was built in the 14th century. 1920 were discovered in the choir, gothic frescoes from the 15th century. The surrounding wall and an old clock tower were disassembled in the 19th century and a new clock tower was raised. Nemes was the centre of the Saxon pottery (“Ceramics of Nemes”). Afterwards drive over Richis to Biertan. Biertan is the largest fortified church in Transylvania, thus making it a high light of the region. The fortified church was introduced 1993 as the first of its kind on the UNESCO list of the World Cultural Heritage. The inner defense wall with a bastion and four towers is from the 15th century, the second wall being built a hundred years later, with two bastions and three defense towers. The gothic three naved hall church in the heart of the fortress was built in 1500 and shelters a lot of precious objects. Between 1572 and 1867 Biertan was the seat of the bishops of the Transylvanian Saxon evangelic church. In the end, drive over Saros pe Tarnave towards the main road and from here to Sighisoara. Day 4. Sighisoara – Dumbraveni – Dirlos – Bazna
In the morning drive to Sighisoara; city tour. Visit of the Clock Tower, the birth house Dracula’s and of the Church on the Hill. Afterwards drive further over Dumbraveni, Alma, Dirlos to Medias. Stop at the evangelic Margarethan Church of Medias. In the end drive to Bazna. D/O/B Pension Bazna 3*
Day 5. Bazna – Tarnaveni – Cetatea de Balta – Boian – Bazna
Visit of the fortified church in Bazna. The late gothic church with three defense floors over the choir is fascinating, revealing lots of attractions. The fortified church has high surrounding walls, tower gate with defense inner corridor and bastion. After this visit, drive over Blajel, Tarnaveni, Cetatea de Balta. In Cetatea de Balta, a visit of the reformation church will be very interesting. The church is from the 13th century and displays besides Romanic elements also gothic ones. The wall frescoes of the church are from the 14th century. After this visit, drive further over Boian back to Bazna. D/O/B Pension Bazna 3*
Day 6. Bazna – Jidvei – Blaj
In the morning drive over Boian, Cetatea de Balta to Jidvei. Jidvei goes back in the history as a beloved wine region, its wines being praised not only in Romania, but internationally as well. Drive further to Blaj, a place who got its name after the first ruler of these lands, Blasius. D/O/B Pension
Day 7. Blaj – Ocna Sibiului – Sibiel
Departure from Blaj over Cistei, Colibi, Secasel, Rosia de Secas, Pauca, Alamor and Mandra to Ocna Sibiului, known as well as Salzburg. This city was first attested in the 13th century. The church, with its oval surrounding walls in the heart of the town, was firstly built as a Roman basilica and a few centuries later, in the 15th century in Gothic style reshaped. After the Reformation it was used both by the evangelic Saxons and the Calvinistic Hungarians. Drive further over Sura Mica, Rusciori, Cristian, Orlat to Sibiel, today’s ending point. Day 8. Sibiel – Bucharest
In the morning drive to Sibiu. Sightseeing walk in Sibiu with visit of the large and the small ring, the Liar’s Bridge and of the evangelic cathedral. Afterwards drive heading South, along the Olt-Valley. Short stop at the Monastery Cozia, one of the oldest monasterial complexes of the country. In the late afternoon arrival in Bucharest. In the evening festive dinner with folklore program at Rest. Pescarus. O/B H. Elizeu 3*
Day 9. Bucharest – Frankfurt
After breakfast city tour of Bucharest with visit of the Patriarchal Church (seat of the Romanian Orthodox Patriarch), the Palace of the Parliament (second largest building in the world after the Pentagon) and of the Village Museum. In the end transfer to the airport, farewell from the Romanian guide and flight home.
