1.Day Frankfurt –Bukarest-Timisul de Sus; H Continental 3*
Arrival at the Romanian airport Otopeni in Bucharest. We drive trough the southern part of Romania, Valahia, and then trough the Prahova - Valley, where we can admire not only the beautiful landscapes of the Romanian Carpathians, but also the magnificent city, Sinaia, which is known as „The pearl of the Carpathians “. We continue to drive by the high-altitude mountain city of Romania, Predeal, and arrive at Timisul de Sus. Accommodation in the hotel Continental.
2. Day Timisul de Sus-Brasov - Bicaz gorge – Neamt monastery
In the morning we visit the city Brasov, one of the seven German fortresses from Transilvania. Here it’s worth seeing the Black Church, which is the largest gothic religious construction between Viena and Istanbul. The beautiful orthodox church of the old part of the town can be also visited. In the proximity of Brasov lies also the fortified church Prejmer, that was built around the 13-th century in order to defend Brasov against the Turkish raids. After a drive through the Bicaz gorge, whose landscapes will fascinate us, we arrive at the Neamt monastery, which is hidden in a forest valley. Here we make a small tour in the surroundings. 3. Day Neamt monastery – Secu – Sihastria – Neamt monastery
Today we have a few bike trips to the impressive monasteries Secu and Sihastru in our program. The Secu monastery was established in the year 1602, where a former hermitage made of wood used to be. The mural paintings of the monastery date from the 17-th century. The first Romanian text book was printed here. The monastery Sihastria was built in the year 1655. Not a long way from here there is also the cave of the Holy Teodora. We also visit the monastery Neamt, which originates from that 14-th century. You can find here an icon that was painted in the year 665 and also the oldest book collection in Romania with over 15000 manuscripts in Slavic, Greek and Romanian. Further we make a short bike trip and a walk in the protected area „Vanatori Neamt “. In this national park, with a surface of 30.818ha, there still live the aurochs, the wild cattle that became extinct.
4. Day Neamt monastery – Radauti – Putna monastery
Today we drive to the city of Radaut dating from the middle ages. From here we drive up to the Putna monastery. The Putna monastery was built between 1466 and 1469 during the reign of Stephan the Great (1457-1504), who was buried here. Here we visit the museum, which contains exquisite cloths and hand-painted books from the marvelous collection of religious objects of the monastery shows. One of it is a silk cloth, which was made in 1477 by the tartar princess Marie of Mangop, one of the wives Stephan the Great. Another valuable jewel of the monastery is the miracle-making icon of Theotokos, which was brought here from Constantinopol in 1472 by queen Maria of Mangop. Accommodation in the Putna monastery.
5. Day Putna Monastery - Sucevita; H Popasul Bucovinei
Today we drive tho the Sucevita monastery, which lies 18 km away from the Radauti city and which is regarded as one of the treasures of the Moldavia. The monastery is still considered an end point of the moldavian architectural development of the 15. /16. century. Its fresco paintings have a narrative character and have a teaching purpose. 6. Day Popasul Bucovinei - Voronet; Vila Doina 3*
Something arduously goes today on the Ciumirna pass (1109 m, approx. 400 difference in altitude). Those who want may take the bus. Drive into the valley to the Monastery Moldovita, which was donated in the year 1532. Impressing paintings represent „The siege of Constantinopol “, „The prayer of the Virgin Mary“and „The tree of Joshua “. In the museum of the monastery you can find engraved pieces of furniture from the 16th century that are decorated with popular motives. Religious pieces of furniture from the 17-th century, holy pictures, valuable books, embroideries, carvings, decorating ceramic and the price “Pomme d'Or”, which was offered by the International Journalists Federation in Tourism for the international acknowledgment of the monasteries in the northern part of Moldavia are still to be seen in the museum. 7. Day Voronet - Poiana Marului - Voronet; Vila Doina 3*
Bike trip to the Voronet monastery, which represents a synthesis between Byzantine elements (clover sheet sketch with tower over the ship) and gothic elements (indignation vines of the building with pointed elbow and prop columns). Due to its grandiose outside fresco, Voronet is also called „The Sixtine Chapel of the East “. We also suggest a small excursion in the Polish village Poiana Marului. Accommodation in Humor.
8. Day Voronet – Suceava – Bucharest - Frankfurt
On the early morning comfortable travel by train to Bucharest and individual departure. (Depending on takeoff time additional overnight accommodation in Bucharest on request).
