3.7 DISCOVER JOURNEY TRANSYLVANIA

Services:

7 overnights in 3* hotels or pensions, half board, English speaking guide from/to the border, all entrances included, drive with bus/mini-bus (air conditioning system, bar on board), drive with horse wagons, 3 merry dinners, luggage service in the hotel.


 

Day 1. Frankfurt-Bucharest-Predeal
Arrival at the Bucharest-Otopeni airport. Meeting with the romanian guide and drive on in the mountains. D/O/B H. Orizont 3*

Day 2. The Carpathians
In the morning drive to Sinaia. Here we'll have short sightseeing of the Peles Castle, the summer residence of the king family of Hohenzollern. Then trip to the Sinaia monastery, which was built by the monks from the Sinai peninsula in the 17th century. These also gave the name of the city. In the afternoon visit at the Bran Castle, also known as Dracula Castle. Then, travel with the horse wagons to Moeciu. Merry dinner in a restaurant in the mountains. O/B Orizont Hotel 3*

Day 3. Mo Predeal- Medias
In the afternoon, city tour of Brasov including visit of the Black Church (the biggest gothic sacral building in Eastern Europe). Then one can visit the old city hall and the orthodox church from the old town. Trip to Sighisora. The city is also known as Rothenburg from Romania. Tour through the old town, where you can visit the clock tower and the house where Dracula was born. In the end, short walk to the Josef Haltrich high school and to the church from the hill. In the afternoon drive to Bazna. D/O/B Pension 3*

Day 4. Tue Mosna
In the afternoon drive to the Mosna dike, southeast from Medias. From here we can make a walk (ca 60 min, height difference 150 m) to the little community Nemsa. This was established 1359 by the german colonists. Here was the centre of the pottery from Transylvania. Many ornaments are painted here on bright or dark ground, on plates or pots. 2 km from here is the Mosna community. Lunch in an inn. In the afternoon sightseeing of the village, which was established 1283.The long hall of the church was built out of 3 naves. Near the vestry door is a 10 m high sacrament little house. We can visit the church from the village. In the evening drive back to Bazna. D/O/B Pension Bazna 3*.

Day 5. Wed Tarnava-Valley
In the morning drive to Saros pe Tarnave. From here we hike (ca 90 min, height difference 200 m) through the valley of the Biertan river. The community was established 1293 from the German colonists and had the right of weekly market confirmed from king Sigismund in 1418. The village was the residence of the transylvanian bishops. Lunch at the priest house (now changed into a youth hostel). In the afternoon we visit the church. It is one of the best conserved constructions from Transylvania. The inside circle with the 3 towers was strengthen with a second wall from the 15th century. The centre of castle is a hall church with 3 vaults. A special decoration is also the vestry with the intarsia (1515) and its artistic lock. Afterwards one organise a wine tasting in the cellar from Biertan. In the evening drive back to Bazna. Day 6. Medias – Sibiu
In the morning drive to Medias. City tour with visit of the Margareth church from the old town. We can see here a wing altar from the 15th century. This was built by masters from Vienna and is in the present the biggest from Romania. During a city tour through the old town, we can visit also the trumpet tower and the birth house from Stephan Ludwig Roth, one of the most important Saxons from Transylvania. Then drive to Sibiu with visit of the great and of the small ring, the Bridge of Lies and the evangelic cathedral, the residence of the bishops of Romania. In the evening, short trip to Sibiel, where we can visit the museum of glass icons. In the end, merry dinner at mountain peasants. D/O/B Hotel Continental 3*

Day 7. Sibiu - Pitesti
In the morning we drive through the "Young Forest" to the village museum. We can see here houses from all Transylvania. At noon we drive to Cisnadioara to visit the saxonian church and the national museum. Then along the Olt - valley, through the Red Tower pass into Valachia. Short stop at the Cozia monastery (14 century), one of the oldest orthodox monasteries from Romania. Merry dinner in the hotel. D/O/B Muntenia Hotel 3*.

Day 8. Pitesti-Bucharest-Frankfurt
In the morning we drive to Bucharest, the Romanian capital. City tour through Bucharest, visiting the Palace of Parliament, the second biggest building after the Pentagon, the Patriarchal Church, residence of the orthodox bishops and the Village Museum. Drive to the airport, farewell from the Romanian guide and home flight.
