Services

13 overnights, half board, English speaking guide, all entrances incl., 3 festive dinners, wine tasting, ride with the horse carriage, full day excursion into the Danube Delta (incl. lunch on board), transport by modern bus/minibus


 

Day 1. Sat Frankfurt – Bucharest – Predeal
Arrival at the airport Bucharest – Otopeni, meeting with the Romanian guide and drive further to the Carpathians. In the evening, short hiking to the cottage “Trei brazi” for a typical Romanian dinner and folk music. O/B Hotel Orizont 3*

Day 2. Predeal
In the morning drive to the Castle Peles in Sinaia. This was the summer residence of the Romanian Royal Family of the Hohenzollern. After the visit, hiking to the Monastery Sinaia, who was built in the 16th century from monks from the Sinai Peninsula. In the afternoon visit of the Castle Bran, also known as the Dracula Castle. If desired, one can hike up on the mountain to the Fortress Rasnov. D/O/B H. Orizont 3*

Day 3. Predeal – Piatra Neamt
After breakfast visit of the city Brasov, the largest one in Transylvania. Visit of the Black Church, the largest gothic sacred building of Eastern Europe. Afterwards visit of the old City Hall and of the Orthodox Church from the historical centre. From here drive to the fortified churches of Harman and Prejmer. These two fortress churches are in the eastern part of Transylvania and have defended over the centuries the Buzau Pass and the city Brasov. Afterwards, through the Szekler-Country to the Red Lake. From here, hiking possibility to the Bicaz Clamm. D/O/B H. Central 3*

Day 4. Piatra Neamt – Campulung Moldovenesc
In the morning drive heading north. The first monastery on the program today is Varatec. Here we will get after an about one hour long hike and we will find over 1000 nuns and novices. Together with the Monastery of Agapia, they are some of the largest monasteries in Europe. Here we will get an impression about the life in an orthodox monastery. In the afternoon we will visit the monastery Neamt. The hiking leads along the monastery Vovidenia and the theological seminar. The Monastery Neamt was built in the 15th century by the prince Stephan the Great. D/O/B H. Zimbrul 3*

Day 5. Tour of the Monasteries
We start the day with a hike to the Monastery Voronet, which is also known as the “Sistine Chapel” of Romania. The Last Judgment, wonderful painted on the outside walls of the monastery, is world wide known. In the afternoon one can see the Monastery Moldovita. The guests are introduced by Sister Tatiana in the world of the orthodox belief, explaining the significance of the frescoes, which have religious and political meanings of the past centuries. Afterwards visit of the Monastery Sucevita, with a very impressive surrounding wall. In the end visit of the black ceramic centre in Marginea. D/O/B H. Zimbrul 3*

Day 6. Campulung Moldovenesc - Bazna
The day starts with a drive heading west over the Tihuta Pass. Trekking is always a fun part of the day, especially when in the mountains. A short stop at the Dracula Hotel gives us the possibility to find out more about the legend and the real story of the bloody Count Dracula. In the afternoon city tour in Bistrita. We can see here the evangelic church, with the highest tower in Romania. Once arrived in Targu Mures, one can see the largest orthodox church of the country. Also very interesting is the style of the Culture Palace in the heart of the city. D/O/B Pension Bazna 3*

Day 7. Fortified Churches
The program includes today the visit of the most important Transylvanian Saxon fortified churches. The first stop is in Sighisoara, to visit the old fortress with its Clock Tower, birth house Dracula’s and the Church on the Hill, towards which one can hike. In the afternoon drive to Saros pe Tarnave from where we will enjoy a hiking in a wonderful peaceful landscape, towards Biertan, where we will admire the largest fortified church in Transylvania. This was the seat of the evangelic bishops until the middle of the 19th century. After this visit, wine tasting in Seuca, in a historical Saxon winery. D/O/B Pension Bazna 3*

Day 8. Medias
In the morning walking tour in Bazna, to visit the Saxon fortified church and the curing spas of the village as well. Then ride with the horse carriage to Boian, to visit another impressive fortified church. In the afternoon drive to Medias. Walk through the old city centre with visit of the Margarethan Church, which shelters the largest wing altar in Eastern Europe. D/O/B Pension Bazna 3*

Day 9. Medias – Sibiu
After breakfast drive to Axente Sever and from here trekking to Valea Viilor, to see the old fortified church. Then short stop in Slimnic. Walk up the hill to see the fortress. Afterwards drive to the “Young Forest” to visit the most beautiful Village Museum of the country. Then hiking to Cisnadioara, to visit the fortified church. In the afternoon drive towards Sibiel and hiking into the village. Here one can admire glass icons in the beautiful museum of Sibiel. In the evening, festive dinner at peasants’ homes. O/B H. Day 10. Sibiu – Pitesti
The day begins with the visit in the medieval centre of Sibiu. Here we can admire the large and the small ring and the Liar’s Bridge. A special moment is at the evangelic church, where we find the grave of Dracula’s son, Mihnea the Mean. The Bruckenthal Palace is as well an attraction point for culture lovers, impressing with its art gallery. In the afternoon drive through the Red Tower Pass, into Walachia. Short stop at the Monastery Cozia (14th century), one of the oldest orthodox monasteries of the country. D/O/B H. Muntenia 3*

Day 11. Pitesti – Bucharest – Mamaia
In the morning drive along the high way towards the capital of Romania. Once arrived, sightseeing tour of Bucharest with visit of the Palace of the Parliament (second largest building in the world), the Patriarchal Church (seat of the Orthodox Romanian Patriarch) and of the Village Museum. In the afternoon drive to the Black Sea, to Mamaia. D/O/B H. Riviera Beach 3*

Day 12. Wed Mamaia
The entire morning is at free leisure. In the afternoon city tour of Constanta with visit of the Archeological Museum, the Roman Mosaic, the Turkish Mosque and of the Orthodox Cathedral St. Peter and Paul. D/O/B H. Riviera Beach 3*

Day 13. Thu Danube Delta
After breakfast drive to Tulcea where we will embark the boat who will take us into the nature paradise of the Danube Delta. At first ride along the Sulina Canal and from here, along the narrow water ways of the Mile 35, to the Crazy Lake, known as one of the most beautiful pelican reservations of the Delta. In the meanwhile we enjoy a typical fisherman’s lunch on board the boats. In the afternoon ride back to Tulcea and from here drive back to Mamaia. D/O/B H. Riviera Beach 3*

Day 14. Mamaia – Bukarest – Frankfurt
In the morning drive to Bucharest, transfer to the airport, farewell from the guide and flight home.
